Mission Statement
The mission of Green Bee Housing is to help empower people by bringing the knowledge needed to households to make a positive contribution to the environment by helping reduce their carbon footprint.
Using the energy performance certificates we aim to build upon and advance this starting point, set out by the Government into a more thorough assessment of domestic housing by advising our clients how to better insulate their properties, therefore reducing the amount of energy required to heat their property and reducing their energy costs.
By utilising technologies such as thermal imaging machines and air tightness tests we can more thoroughly predict areas within our property that waste energy. Green Bee Housing aim to convince local Councils and Government that these tests should be included within the energy performance certificate as a bare minimum, after all the idea of energy performance certificates is to help us all reduce our energy costs and carbon footprint.
We Are
My Name is Gerry Wall and I am the owner of Green Bee Housing. Before I started Green Bee Housing I was in the service industry in one fashion or another for over 20 years. I sold that business and started this one as I wanted to try and make a real difference in peoples lives. I wanted to try and add value to their properties and homes and try to save them money on their fuel bills
In early 2009 I decided to re-train and went back to school. Quite a scarey experience at first as I was worried about being the oldest person in the room. However, I passed my course and became a qualified Energy Assessor. I might add that when I did the course it was quite a lot of money and took me over 3 months to complete and then we had to produce a portfolio of ten properties before we were awarded the City & Guilds. There is no crash course that can really take into account all that you should know to do this job just training companies trying to cash in on your hard earned money.
I tried to resist doing the HIPs as my original thoughts were that this was just not worth it to the customer but I soon realised that I was loosing possible customers by not offering this service. I looked into doing HIPs and altered my website at that time to enable clients to book online. I was shocked to find out that anyone could do HIPs. There was no qualification needed whasoever. I was never a lover of HIPs and to some degree I am glad that they are history but I am sad at the way the new Government handled it. By just stopping HIPs overnight they put 3,000 people directly out of work and affected 10,000 people indirectly. All this in a time of recession on the basis of stimulating the market. Did it....NO. To do that the Banks have to start lending!!!!!.
While I was studing to become an Energy Assessor I soon realised that this could be improved greatly, by using Infrared Thermography, Thermal Imaging technology. I soon became a partner with the EEPH (energy efficiency partnership for homes) a Government funded project partnership.
In 2009 I became a Certified Thermographer. I can honestly say this was the most difficult course and exam I have ever done. I studied with the military from Portsmouth Naval Base and a few guys that worked on the oil rigs, one in the North Sea and the other was flown in direct from Canada. I now have a 5 year license to work. I am also a member of the UK Thermography Association as well as a member of The British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing of which I am most proud.
As the HIPs fell away and estate agents and the like tried to make cut backs due to the recession, professional Energy Assessors like myself were called upon to deliver more services and encumber more into what we were offering such as Floorplans, Photography and Inventories.
Due to this we took the decision to revamp the website to incorporate these new services and be as transparent as possible about our pricing structure. Here at Green Bee Housing our professionalism and reputation mean everything to us and we will not and do not cut corners with our services. This might mean that we are not as cheap as some of our competitors but as the saying goes, if you pay peanuts you get monkeys and in life we all know you get what you pay for. Personally I would rather pay a higher price and get a service of value than a lower price and get no service whatsoever.
I have lived in Ealing and now Hanwell all of my life and I am dedicated to working in the local area not only on the services I bring but in my personal life as well, trying to make a difference. I am a School Governor at one of the local schools and I sit on the Ward Panel committee trying to make our streets safer for all of us.
It is due to this commitment and our good reputation that we were approached by our local Gas Safety man. He wanted to join us in our efforts to help the local people and give them a good service for a reasonable return. He has lived and worked in this area for many years and is on the Gas Safe register, which everyone should check before they allow anyone into their homes to work on a bolier.
It was in similiar circumstances that we were approached by our local electrican with over 25 years experience in the business, we can now offer Electrical Periodic Inspection Reporting.
Electrical work in something that I have always been interested in and have served some time under various electricians over the years so I decided to once again return to college to study. I spent over 6 months at college and passed my Level 2 EAL certificate and I am now Part P registered and part of the competent person scheme and legally able to perform Electrical Inspection & testing. However, I feel that this is not enough and I am further going on to build a portfolio of work and return to college and study for my 2392-10 City & Guilds before I Inspect and test, such is my dedication to making sure that our clients only get the very best service at all times.
With all of this in mind we feel ready and able to give you the client the best service in West London & The Home Counties.
People have been asking us what is Green Bee Goodies about and why have you bothered with adding this to your website. Well the simple answer is that we wanted this to be more than just a website that said: This is what we do and that is how much it costs and there is the number so ring it. We wanted to build a brand that represented some of my passion for helping people and giving something back to the community. I wanted to try and do this in a fun and interesting way. We do have a few free gifts to give away so invite you to play along as we try and build a brand awareness.
I hope this gives you a small flavour of what we are all about and I look forward to hearing from you, even if it is for a bit of advice or chat.
Kind regards
Gerry Wall
